Join us in Middlesbrough on 19 November for a fantastic free day of inspiration, challenges, fun, and wonder!
Meet this year’s authors and illustrators, who include Cathy Cassidy, The Two Steves, Vivian French, Guy Bass, Tracey Corderoy, Philip Ardagh, Paul Cookson, Gabrielle Kent, Jonny Duddle, Alan Windram, Barry Hutchison, Holly Sterling and many more…
You can take part in creative writing and illustration sessions, and get hints and tips for keeping a digital diary. If you are feeling creative, there will be artist workshops where you can make a memento of the day to take home, join in with drop in craft sessions with the local library services or you can see what surprises there might be in mima’s art trolley.
Blackwell’s will be running a pop-up book shop, and all the authors and illustrators will be available to sign copies of their books after their sessions. Keep your eyes open for the wonderful illustrated book benches which will be popping up in the town centre, and watch out for a local football celebrity!
Look out for publicity and more information in your local library and see the full programme here NCBF 2016 Gala Day Programme
Tickets are free but must be booked in advance for sessions and some workshops. Tickets are now available via this link on Eventbrite.
**Would you benefit from having a signer in your session?**
We have always had a signer at Gala Day for hearing impaired members of the audience. In previous years, we’ve chosen the sessions in which the signer took part. This year we want to find out from you if you would benefit from having a signer in the sessions you’re attending. We can’t guarantee we can provide a signer at every session for which one is requested, but if you let us know which author you’re coming to see, we’ll let us know if it’s possible. For further details, please email email@example.com or contact us through our Facebook page, Northern Children’s Book Festival.
We’ve got some great artist workshops this year! You can make a Sea Adventure pop up book, a Pirate Swag book bag, stitch your own book and make a concertina version, create your own moon diary and even make a glass page.
Places are limited and tickets always go really quickly, leaving many people disappointed who didn’t get the chance to book. We had decided to let people book on arrival this year but several people have asked if they can book in advance to help plan their day.
To help minimise disappointment, we’ve increased the number of places for each workshop and this year there’ll be between 15 – 20 places for each one, depending on the workshop theme. We’re going to have 10 places for each workshop available to book in advance from Friday, and we’ll have the remaining places available to book on the day.
Please note: Parents and carers do not need to book tickets for the artist workshops but they do need to stay in the room whilst the workshop is taking place.
Workshop tickets will be available from 08:00 on Friday 11 November from Eventbrite.
