Many children’s book festivals charge for attending events and sessions, anything from £2 – £25.

We are proud that our Gala Day attracts people who do not normally attend events of this kind.  “On the Gala Day the audience that comes through the doors is different from the one that can be found at Cheltenham, Hay or Edinburgh: the NCBF audience consists mainly of people whose natural habitat may not have been to the bookshop, the library, the theatre or gallery.” Steve Barlow and Steve Skidmore (The Two Steves).

We are absolutely committed to ensuring that our Gala Day is free ensuring that any family, from any background, is able to get involved in this exciting, inspiring and sometimes life changing experience.

We receive no core funding from the government or any related agencies and every year we actively fundraise from trusts, foundations and other funders, which is always a challenge.

All donations are invaluable and very gratefully received.  Every penny counts and all the money we raise goes towards covering the costs of the Gala Day and other exciting projects to engage schools and communities which may otherwise not have access to the inspiring experience of meeting the creators of their favourite books.
